PROFESSOR AMIT RAPHAEL ZORAN 
founder of FirstLight 

Amit R. Zoran is a professor of computer science whose work explores consciousness, perception, technology, and the living world. His research brings together technological practice, field work in nature, and first person study of contemplative and mystical traditions. Through writing, teaching, and research, he asks what we need to keep cultivating in ourselves as technology grows more capable, and how deeper forms of attention can help us stay oriented in a changing world.

FirstLight is a research and learning platform exploring consciousness, perception, and our relationship with the living world and technology. It brings together scientific research, contemplative practice, traditional knowledge, and field work to examine how these domains shape one another. Through teaching, writing, research, and creative practice, it asks how we can stay oriented and attentive as technology grows more capable and our relationship with the world around us continues to change.
